Ms. Geneva Dycus is missed by all, especially us that loved reading the Dycusburg News. We will try to carry on her tradition of keeping everyone in the community up to date on the latest happenings in town.

Bro. James Oates filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church on Sunday, there was a decent crowd. The choir sang a special and the children’s choir sang Jesus Loves Me. On Saturday night, the church hosted a fall festival. There was several in attendance. After supper, there were several games to play, including a cake walk, a duck pond and a ring toss.

Rev. Tim Keelar filled his regular appointment at the Methodist church on Sunday.

A house warming shower was held at the Methodist church last week for Ritchie Martin, He has recently purchased a new home.

A group from the Baptist church attended the Judgment House in Princeton on Monday night; they had supper at Pagalli’s.

Shirley Stinnett and Genalee Jewell had supper at The Oasis in Kuttawa on Sunday night. Shirley is recovering from a recent bout with the flu and Genalee is recuperating from her knee surgery. It is good to see them out.

A crowd rode at Patti’s bluff resort this past weekend. The big bash Halloween weekend will be the last of the season. We wish them all a good time in the mud.

Sunday dinner guest of Mrs. Virginia Peek were Patsy O’Bryan, Terry and Debbie Joiner, Daniel and Christopher, Tina Cochrum, Shawna, Matt and Sam, and Linda Stinnett, Destiny and Meagan.

Faye Stinnett is recuperating from recent back surgery and Glenda Peek is doing good since her recent heart attack. We are happy they are doing well.

Happy 17th wedding anniversary to Eddie and Donna Jewell.

Recent visitors of Shelly O’Bryan and Linda Stinnett were their brothers and step father from Texas.

We wish a speedy recovery to Billy Joe Martin who is recovering from a recent heart attack.

Reverend Jim Keegan filled his regular appointment at the Methodist church on Sunday. We apologize for miss-spelling his name last week.

Bro. James Oates filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church on Sunday. The church hosted a fellowship supper on Sunday night.

Byron Jasis and family hosted a cookout for the Lyon County Band last weekend. The neighbors were surprised by the loud and sparkling fireworks display. Everyone had a great time.

Genalee Jewell, Shirley and Ms. Rhea Stinnett had dinner in Eddyville on Sunday after Church. They enjoyed eating at the Chinese restaurant, then attended the fellowship supper at the Baptist church Sunday night.

Candy Matthews is recovering from recent surgery.

Mrs. Nellie Johnson is a patient at Livingston County Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.

The recycling bin will be in the parking lot of the Baptist church the fourth Monday of each month. Please recycle and keep our community clean.

The Halloween Weekend Jamboree at Patti’s Bluff Resort was a huge success; Keith Travis worked up a sweat flipping burgers. The Resort will be closed for deer hunting season, but will reopen on November 22, with free admission in observance of Customer Appreciation Day.

Kurt and Lisa (Bailey) Aldridge and children visited Gary and Sue Bailey on Sunday.

The community was saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Imogene Winston. She was a beloved music teacher to most of us during our elementary school years. I will never forget her coming into music class singing, "Good morning first grade," and us singing, "Good morning, Ms. Winston."

The community was filled with trick or treaters on Halloween when several children went door to door collecting treats. They all had a great time and collected too much candy.

Daniel and Christopher Joiner hosted a Halloween party for Matthew Cochrum and Samuel Hopkins on Halloween night. The boys had supper, traded candy from trick or treating, played games and watched movies.

A household shower was held for Ms. Jennifer Green on Sunday afternoon. She received many useful gifts.

The community honors our military veteran’s both past and present. We appreciate the sacrifices they and their families have made for our freedom. God Bless the USA.

Bro. James Oates filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church on Sunday. Matthew Hape, grandson of Cliff and Paulette Paddock is on the sick list, the family asks that the community keep Matthew in their prayers. A benefit gospel singing and supper is being planned for December 6, 2003.

Rev. Jim Keegan filled his regular appointment at the Methodist church on Sunday. Mary Martin is doing better, she received a broken arm when she fell last week. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Maxine Matthews is doing better after being transported to the Crittenden County Hospital by ambulance on Monday night.

Brandon O’Bryan celebrated his 13th birthday on Friday night with his family and a couple of his friends by having a wiener roast at his home. A good time was enjoyed by all.

The Annual Deer Hunters Breakfast was held at the Masonic Hall on Saturday morning. Vernon Stinnett, coordinator of the breakfast, said he, Jimmy Ray Stinnett, Denny Davenport, Louise Doom, Jim Dalton and Marshall Peek arrived at 3 a.m. to begin cracking eggs, mixing gravy, baking biscuits and frying bacon and sausage for the meal. The breakfast which has become a tradition during the past three or four years drew a good crowd this year and Stinnett hopes for a bigger crowd next year. Mr. Stinnett said the money is used for widows and children; "We take Christmas baskets to the widows and children in Dycusburg, Frances, Fredonia, as far away as Grand Rivers," Stinnett said. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast while telling deer hunting stories and a few showed off their kill.

Barbara Ethridge and Ricky Bowman had an early Thanksgiving dinner for their children and family members on Saturday. It was done early for Ricky's son, Brian, and his wife Shannon and their three children as Brian will be leaving to return to Iraq on Wednesday, Nov. 25. There were 26 people that enjoyed the meal and fellowship. We all wish Brian a safe trip back to Iraq and a speedy return home in January to his family and friends.

This Thanksgiving remember to give thanks for all that you have; you never know when you may lose part or all of it. The most important things in life are God, family, friends and health.

Bro. James Oates filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church on Sunday with a good crowd in attendance. A special was sung by Daniel and Christopher Joiner, Mattie Baize, and Hannah Bowman. "Jesus Loves Me" was sung for Brian Bowman who was home for a visit from Iraq. A surprise potluck dinner was held after services for Brian who has to return to Iraq before Thanksgiving.

Rev. Jim Keegan filled his regular appointment at the Methodist church on Sunday. The wheel chair ramp at the church looks very nice and makes it much easier for everyone who has trouble climbing the stairs. Ms. Genelee Jewell said Bro. Lonnie Knight built the ramp for them.

A Benefit Gospel Singing and Sandwich Supper will be held on December 6 beginning at 6 pm in the Baptist church and fellowship hall for the family of Matthew Hape. Matthew is the 13 year old grandson of Cliff and Paulette Paddock; he has a brain tumor which is cancerous. He is going to St. Jude for tests on Friday. Megan Dutton was all smiles as she celebrated her sixth birthday Friday night with a party at her home. Those helping her celebrate were Michelle, Brandon and Lisa O’Bryan, Debbie, Daniel and Christopher Joiner, Matthew Cochrum, Jackie and Devin Farmer, Patsy O’Bryan, Destiny Dutton and Linda Stinnett. Megan choose Nemo as the theme for her party. A good time was had by all.

Maxine Matthews is home from the hospital; Charles said she is doing a little better. Mary Martin is at home too, Billy Joe said she is awful sore. Steve Turley is home from the hospital; also Paul Stinnett and Ms. Nellie Johnson have been released from the hospital. Jerline (Joyce) Boyd is also on the sick list.

Sunday afternoon visitors of Ms. Virginia Peek were Genalee Jewell, Tina Cochrum, Shawna, Matt and Sam, Debbie Joiner, Daniel and Christopher, Billy and Michelle O’Bryan, Brandon and Lisa and Patsy O’Bryan. Ms. Virginia and Patsy were in Marion on Monday and in Princeton on Thursday.

We have learned that The Press is received in Earlington, KY each week. We send greetings to Curly and Lena Conger. Happy Thanksgiving and we hope Lena doesn’t eat too much!

The Press also goes to Angleton, Texas where we send Peggy (Shelly and Linda’s mom) wishes for a Happy Birthday. We also wish you, Pops and the rest of the family a Happy Thanksgiving.

Denny Davenport will be leaving for active duty the day after Thanksgiving. We wish Denny and all other American Soldiers a safe deployment. God Bless Our Troops.

Local Heroes is a project we would like to begin. Please let us know if you know of a hero from our community. We will spotlight one each week. This week Denny Davenport is our hero. Denny is a member of the National Guard and will be leaving for active duty the day after Thanksgiving. Denny is always in town when there is something to be done. He helped cook at the annual deer hunters breakfast this year and is always lending a helping hand at the annual cemetery fund fish fry. We will miss Denny while he is gone and wish him a safe return.

Annual toy and food drives are underway. Various agencies are collecting for the less fortunate; if you have extra, please share. The Cub Scouts is one club collecting toys and food; Payton Bailey and Matthew Cochrum are Cub Scouts and will pick up donations if you like.
